What Our Customers Think
Why We Love Wantagh, NY
About Wantagh
Wantagh, New York, often referred to as ‘The Gateway to Jones Beach’, is a hamlet and census-designated place on the South Shore of Long Island in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. The community was originally inhabited by the Merokee (or Merikoke) tribe of the Metoac Indians prior to the arrival of Dutch settlers in the 17th century. The name ‘Wantagh’ is derived from the Native American word for ‘peaceful’. The region was later settled by English colonists who established mills and other businesses in the area. The community continued to grow throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, and by the 20th century, it had become a popular residential area for people commuting to New York City.
